“Cataract is a clouding of the lens in your eye and results in blurry or cloudy vision. The condition effects millions of people and may require surgery to improve their vision.

During cataract surgery your natural lens is removed and is replaced with an intraocular lens also known as an IOL.

This intraocular lens, like your natural lens, help focus light on your retina which allows you to see objects clearly.

What are the types of IOL’s?

There are different types of IOL’s. Traditional intraocular lenses used after cataract surgery improve your vision but only help focus images at either distance or near. This means you need to use eye glasses to help you see at other distances.

Premium intraocular lenses are now available that can also be used after cataract surgery. These lenses work by allowing images from different distances to be focused on your retina. This offers the possibility for you to see well at a distance and near witout regular use eye glasses.

Are premium IOLs right for me?

Although there are different types of intraocular lenses your eye care provider can help determine which is right for you. If you need cataract surgery ask your eye surgeon if premium IOL is right for you.”

Intraocular Lenses

Intraocular implants (IOLs) are often prescribed by eye surgeons following a cataract surgery. They can be used to restore one’s ability to focus on objects. Cataract surgery involves removing a damaged or cloudy lens from the eye.

Without an IOL a patient that had cataract surgery customarily would have to wear cumbersome “coke bottle” glasses in order to be able to focus properly again. An IOL reduces the need for glasses.

IOLs are tailored to your individual prescription and eye needs. Some special types of implants can also address other eye problems. You may still need to use glasses for some activities to supplement the IOLs but ordinarily such spectacle corrections are of average thickness.
